Mt. Garfield Area Map

This collage is done on a 40 inch by 30 inch wrapped canvas and is the second in a series of Mt. Garfield (the iconic hill of the Bookcliffs near Grand Junction). It was chosen to represent Southwestern Colorado in the Creative Capitol Series sponsored by the Colorado Council on the Arts and is [...]

Enchanted Forest

This piece was my second attempt at a forest collage and it is the one with which I am happiest. It has long since sold and I have made 11×14 prints of it which are available at The Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade, Colorado. I love that fact that some of the trees [...]

Forest Light II

This is an example of the latest incarnation of my forest collage series. It is done on a 60 inch by 24 inch cradled board and as such doesn’t need framing. It is constructed of photos, found papers, magazine papers, tissue paper, cheesecloth and lots of paint and UV varnish. I wanted [...]

Blues Connections

I did this collage as a sequel to Havana Serenade. I was intrigued by the theme of musicians and wanted to see if I could keep on making meaningful art based on this theme. It just evolved from no particular source material. Although, I must cite the work of Romare Bearden as [...]

Buffalo Gal

Complementary Lady

Well, this collage has an interesting history. It started out as a watercolor of a seabed–fairly abstract. As such it was juried into a local exhibition of “contemporary” art. It hung around my studio for a while. Then I discovered a new technique in a workshop I attended with Joanne Ruggles. [...]

Havana Serenade

This piece was a class demonstration on using connecting geometrics. It took on a life of its own as another rumination on our Cuban experiences. I am sure it means something profound—but to me it is a celebration of the Cuban people and their music.
This piece is part of the collection of a [...]

Family

I did this collage to see if I could successfully do portrait collages. This piece depicts my son and his family. I incorporated my grand-daughter’s artwork, my son’s artwork, many photos of the family at various points in their lives. The reference for this was a photo from a holiday card.

Meta Muse

I struggled with this “made up” portrait until I decided to overlay a manipulated photo of the Mona Lisa printed on transparent vellum on top of the face. So this piece is a homage to Leonardo DaVinci in a round about way. There are at least nine layers of collage pieces in most [...]
