Bill’s Tree

My former hairdresser, Bill, had an intriguing weeping mulberry tree in his front yard. It was full of intertwined branches in the winter and full of birds in the nicer weather. I always loved to pass by it on my way to his hair salon. Bill passed away in April.
I attempted this rendition of a weeping mulberry in his memory. It uses the process of depouillage which is the fancy french word for peeling away collaged materials. First, I collaged many pieces to represent leaves and branches and colors and then I scraped and pulled many of the pieces off. I followed this by applying metallic papers and paint.
This piece is on a 16×20 inch cradled board and is for sale for $500.00

Topiary Forest

This another of my mixed media oil experiments. It is truly a fantasy forest. I started it as a demo for a local art club and it soon took on a life of its own.
It is done on a wrapped canvas and is 18 inches x 24 inches.
It will be in the Dairy Art Center show in Boulder that I am calling “Forest for the Trees”.
It is for sale for $700.00

Friendly Tree on Serpent’s Trail

This collage piece is a re-working of an older collage. I have always had a good feeling about this particular tree which actually exists up on the trail in the Colorado National Monument. Of course, I have taken liberties.
It is collage papers on hand-made paper, 22 inches by 29 inches and is framed.

This postcard collage just won an award in the National Collage Society‘s annual postcard show. I enter this show every year as a member of the society. I find it is a great exercise to create the most interesting collage I can within a 4 inch by 6 inch space.

Colorado Winescape

I did this piece to enter in the annual Winefest poster contest at The Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade, Colorado. It didn’t win the contest for graphic design considerations, but it did get many nice compliments.
It is a collage done on a 16 inch x 20 inch cradled gesso board. It is for sale for $650.00

This is another in my series of collages with Mt. Garfield as the subject. This one is on a 16 inch x 20 inch wrapped canvas.
This piece has been sold to the Mesa County Public Library for their art collection and is on display in the main branch.

This collage grew from a prepared substrate on a 10 inch x 10 inch gessoboard. The substrate contained a piece of wallpaper border with Van Gogh’s Starry Night and I added sewing pattern tissues to it. I worked around a print of Botticelli’s Three Graces, although I took many liberties with it. I guess I would have to thank both Van Gogh and Botticelli for this whimsical work.

It recently was designated best of show in the Core Gallery of Denver Juried Miniature Show.

African Woman 2

Here is the second of three collages that I have done to honor the brave hearts of African women. This piece is done on a 10 inch by 10 inch box with wooden sides. No need for framing. It could even sit on a shelf or table.
It is for sale for $400.00. I have pledged 30% of the price to the organization Light Gives Heat.
This piece was juried into the National Assocation of Women Artists Open Small Works Exhibition. It will be shown in New York City at the NAWA Gallery from February 2 through February 22, 2011.

Merz Ditypch: Stuff I Picked Up Off the Ground

Here are two 10×10 inch cradled boards that I collaged upon using only papers, boxes, etc. that I picked up off the ground during my neighborhood walks. Some of the pieces are wonderfully weathered so I did not use any paint, just some gloss medium as adhesive. I did put some copper dust on the bottle cap and key tag so they would blend in better. I wanted to create something interesting to look at with junk that would otherwise be a nuisance.
This pair is priced at $500, although I would sell them separately for $225 a piece.

African Woman 1

I am working on a series of 12″x12″ collages based on images of African woman. I would like to honor their dignity and beauty as they face sometimes dire life circumstances. I have always loved the colorful clothes that these beautiful women wear. Even in refugee camps, they look brightly arrayed and not down-trodden.
This is my first piece.
I am asking $500 for each work (they are done on cradled boards 2 inches thick–so no framing needed). I will donate 30% of my proceeds to the organization Light Gives Heat.
